Season 3 – Episode 9: The homebrew show w/ current NAH prez Alex Placito!

Ladies, Gentlemen…the homebrew episode (the first of several). Our good friend and current president of the Niagara Association of Homebrewers, Mr. Alex Placito joins us this episode to talk about the local scene, friends, beers, techniques and much more. We start the show with the intention to try what we all brought to the attic…however trying to fit 9 different beers plus discussion into a little over an hour long show is darn near impossible. Let the show play and let our dynamic show how good friends geek out. Beer(!) is the reason we’re here….Cheers! Continue reading

Season 3 – Episode 8: (A late, yet still valid) CBC 2013 recap.

A bit of time has gone by since the Craft Brewers Conference in Washington DC…we know this because…well, beer! This episode Ethan does a personal recap of his experience at the conference while we sip on a couple goodies he brought back along with a beer I’ve recently been digging.

Osiris Pale Ale from the wonderful Sun King Brewery in Indianapolis goes first with Eight Point IPA from Devil’s Backbone Brewing Co next…finishing up with New Albion Ale, a resurrection done by Sam Adams of the original beer from the now defunct New Albion Brewing Company. Enjoy! Ride your bike! Continue reading

Season 3 – Episode 5: Bock Bock

What’s so great about bock beer? Just about everything, Duh! The coming of spring, the historical background, the cute little goats on the labels and for $%@! sake the malt depth! When you’re tired of hearing the “This beer is 9,000 IBU’s and has 17lbs. of hops per barrel!” line..like I am lately, Bock is a wonderful place to go. I view beer like the cross section of a tree, roots and all. Hops are the leaves and malt, the roots. I like hanging out on the branches as much as the next guy but the ground and below is a much more comfortable place, especially in the late winter…you wouldn’t want to build a fire in a tree, unless you’re crazy.

This week we take a look at Yuengling Bock, Anchor Bock and Ayinger Celebrator Doppelbock as our 3 choices to discuss.

Cheers and thanks for listening! Continue reading

Season 3 – Episode 4: Ratings, hype and Ballast Point.

This week we take a look at three new beers (to W.N.Y.) from Ballast Point Brewing Company – their ultimately literal Pale Ale, Big Eye IPA and the highly revered Sculpin IPA. Nick joins us for a pre-beer section chat via Skype from Baton Rouge, Louisiana to discuss beer rating systems, hype, local pride and what it all means to us in the craft beer world we live in. Ethan and I get to the beer in the second half of the show starting with the Pale Ale (Kolsch) and do a side by side comparison of Big Eye and Sculpin. Enjoy the show and have fun in the snow.

Cheers!! Continue reading
